2021.2 CAD++ constantly crashing

2021.2 CAD++ Service Pack 6 constantly crashing

I can usually open about 4-5 different programs and then PCDMIS completely crashes. The programs aren't open at the same time. I'll open one, run, edit, or nothing, close it and then open up a new one that I need to work on. After about 3-5 times PCDMIS crashes and I have to restart the entire computer to get PCDMIS to start up again.

Is this something anyone else is dealing with?
  • Have you tried unplugging it and plugging it back in again? Rolling eyes
  • "I have to restart the entire computer to get PCDMIS to start up again."
    yep
  • I vaguely remember something like that being a precursor to a hard drive failure on an old manual brown and sharp CMM at my old job. Maybe check the system logs and see if something in the computer is causing an issue.
  • Instead of restarting the PC, have you checked Task Manager to see if the PCDLRN process actually ends upon the crash? I'm wondering if it crashes but the PCDLRN process is still running so you can't restart PC-DMIS.

    Sometimes in the past when I was experimenting with automation, PC-DMIS would crash but the process wouldn't end and I'd have to force quit the application through the Task Manager.

    I've dealt with the exact same thing. It happens only on occasion, the last time(about a week and a half ago) it occurred every time I hit the SAVE button. Of course it lost everything I was working on. So I had to redo all the work. It did this 6-8 times in a row. A total reboot did not stop it, it just quit doing this on it's own. I know how crazy it sounds, but this is not the first time it has happened. I am definitely following this post to see what comes of it!
  • I got pc dmis 2022.2 and it crashes constantly. I open a program, walk away from the computer for a while and come back and pc-dmis isn't open. I don't know if it has stayed open for more than hour without crashing. It also randomly minimizes when you complete a feature. I don't need to restart the computer each time though I just re-open.
  • Latest pc dmis versions are super buggy. My old 2016 CAD version hasn't crashed on me in months. I would rather have that on all our computers than the latest junk from Hexagon.

    My experience is the opposite - the earlier versions are moody and cannibalistic and the later ones far better when it comes to stability.

    Any error message when it crashes?

    Checked the Windows event viewer? You could enable the debug info in PC-DMIS and have it crash, check the debug file for info. Rinse and repeat, maybe you can find the reason that way (if it crashes due to the same reasons).
  • Actually none. I just know that throughout the day, if I close a program and open up a new one, and if i do this a few times, PCDMIS just craps itself. It does prompt me to send a crash report to Hexagon, but it asks me what I was doing at the time. It doesn't provide an explanation.
