clearance cube yes or no??

So I have always used a clearance cube when programing. I do understand it may slow the run time down a bit, but feel it is safer to use it then not. However The guy I replace did not ever use them in any program. He has move points everywhere. It got me to a thinkin what is the best way to use them or not to use them???

Also when I go to add the CC to his programs it seems to mess them up and they do not run correctly. Why would this be?

the 'mess' is due to the move points, they 'conflict'. I will never use CC since I do not work with 'cubical' parts, I work stamped sheet metal, no cad model for the holding fixtures, CC doesn't work for that stuff.

Move points will result in faster programs. Clearance Cube generally faster programs. If there's ever a chance that you only want to check a subset of the programmed dimensions, the Clearance Cube and mini routines are great. They can be frustrating especially if you want to clear in a direction different than the tip orientation. It's all in preferences. I started out with move points, went to clear planes and now Clearance Cube. With move points you can see exactly where the tip is going; clear plane you know if it's going to move or not. Clear Cube, until very recently, you had to dig into the menu's to see if and where the tip was going to move.

try clearance planes. i prefer move points or increments since i can control my positions better, even with Flymode On

increment moves can be a bugaboo. If you get an 'air-trigger' during an incremental move, and you tell it to continue, it will do the ENTIRE incremental move from the current probe position. So, if the incremental move was 0,0,100, and it moved 0,0,75 and air-triggered, the continue button will make it move 0,0,100 from the air-trigger position.

dont air trigger it then haha. i use increment infrequently if at all.

btw flymode seems to help ease jerking of the machine if false triggers or air triggers. If the CMM supports it that is.

I don't like CC because sometimes I don't want to use a CC move for a feature and it's more work to take it off. With CP I can simply not use the CP when creating the feature.
