SMA Update

Hi all, first time poster here.
I've been programming on PC-Dmis for around 4 years, but I've had very little official training on it, it was mostly on-the-job training by others who had formal training. They're no longer here so I am "the guy" now.

I've used the forum previously for info, however I can't seem to find what I am looking for on this topic.

We have a Global S CMM, running PC-Dmis 2019R2 online. Our SMA has always been up to date and updating the license has never been a problem using CLM. However last year, our IT guys had the CMM computer removed from accessing the internet due to security reasons (defense industry). This means I now need to update the license to the current SMA without an internet connection.

I googled how to do this and found these instructions: https://support.hexagonmi.com/s/article/How-to-activate-an-LMS-License-on-a-PC-with-no-internet-access

I followed this process, but when I arrived at step 9 the automatic email replied with a license activation failure. The email read as follows:

The offline activation operation "Response File Creation" failed due to:

"21N-POL-UWCU1M6-OANEA4W-U7C 7288; The activation of the fulfillment is denied by the activation policy because Fulfill count exceeded the available seat count.. [Incident# 2498-80321504] C:\WINDOWS\TEMP\*license number* .clmreq (*license number), QueryOfflineActivationResponse failed (90000907, 2311)"

Common failure reasons are:

- The Entitlement ID of the license is not present in the e-mail body.
- The license has already been activated on another computer.
- The license fulfill count exceeded the available seat count. If this is the case, there are no more activations available for the license.

Please contact the Hexagon Metrology Technical Support for further assistance.

I have contacted Hexagon tech support, but thought I would try my luck here too. I'm not looking for an extra seat, I just want to bring the license up to the current SMA so that I can update the software. Any help?

P.S - The computer I did all the emailing from is not the computer with the PC-Dmis software, as it doesn't have an internet connection, so I transferred the .clmstart and .clmreq files to the correct computer via USB. Not sure if that is playing a part here.

Cheers
  • Using an USB stick to move the CLM files are not an issue i have done it million times with different computers. i think the problem might be your licence had been moved too many times in the days and now it is restricted. Call hexagon and ask them to reset your licenc. it should do the trick Slight smile Hope it help, have a nice day
  • You could try to "rehost" the license, ie. "withdraw" it from the computer and then try to activate it.

Other than that, like Topesz suggested, a reset should do the trick.
  • Hey guys,

and thanks for the responses and suggestions.

At first I was hesitant to rehost the license, as it was displaying words about seat limits etc. and I didn't want to potentially lose the seat temporarily/make things worse.
At first, I got my IT guy to bring the computer back online temporarily, to update it with connection on CLM, but I was getting the same "seat limit exceeded" messages as in the email.
So I got onto my SMA provider and they got onto Hexagon for me. (The original tech support email I sent still hasn't received a reply). They did a license reset for me and it did the trick. Updated the software and now we're humming.

All future SMA and software updates will involve getting IT down to temporarily give the computer internet access, It's just miles easier.

Thanks again for the suggestions, they got me on the right track!
  • Same situation. We got wrong information from Hexagon several times before our IT lady called a service tech directly. I'll try to dig up the procedure that worked.
  • Some folks love 'em, many don't.... but I'm on the side that loves the little green fish (dongle). Yeah, Hex says later releases need too much data to cram in a HASP. Whatever. Glad I have my lil dongle for offline if I'm on post (yeah, DoD is the employer) or if I work from home.
CLM? not the easiest license to transfer. Hex tech or your company IT person (see above issues). And most companies will not give you local admin rights. THAT blows chunks. The IT folks then, just don't know how to secure you as local admin. The worst part is? IT department people will more times than not screw your install of PC-DMIS as soon as they go under the Demon hood to tinker around.
(no ADMIN, no Settings Editor fun) registry key f'd up etc. Hexagon is trying a new johnson rod fix! (.json files so you can tweak settings with no admin rights) Its not totally there yet, but it's a good start IMHO.
Just don't let the IT people you might be able to drive the Demon yourself! Rolling eyes
