Some of this depends on the probe system you have, the controller on the CMM and the tolerances you need to hold.
Everything should "qualified" at ABSOLUTE speeds and all of your programming needs to be done at ABSOLUTE also
What type of probe system are you using?
Do you have the machine set for 'display absolute speeds'? (safest practice as it gives you more control/understanding for the speed)
Have you tested your probe accuracy by measuring something known, like a ring or disc gage? <If you start slow(touchspeed=1 or 2 with scanning heads, 3 or 4 with TTP) and increment your speed up you can find the point that the data is no longer repeatable/accurate.
Keep in mind that the smaller your prehit/retract distance is the slower you will likely want your touchspeed to be. I don't see a drop off until about .03" for prehit/retract distances with a scanning head(SP25) at 2mm/sec but at .08" - .1" a touchspeed of 3mm/sec yields accurate data.

I have been told in the past to use 3.33. The guy this year said 2.5. I am using a Brown & Sharpe Status
My tolerances vary. Some are small as 0.0005" and big as 0.078"
