PC-DMIS 2022.2 not retaining settings

I can disable home page using F5 or settings editor and all is fine until application is closed and reopened and voila! Home page is back!

Also I can set a Clearpoint and all is fine until software is closed and reopened then the clearpoint is changed to machine home.

  • Sounds like PC_DMIS hasn't got permission to edit the settings.  Did you make sure you ran it as administrator after installing?

  •   Yes... it's worked fine for 11 months but today it wants to act up!!!

This machine is actually part of an automated machining center.  It's not on an outside network nor connected to internet.

The clearpoint is used to take the CMM to the park position.  The cell was in cycle and actually ran 47 parts before messing the bed.  On part 48 the clearpoint was reset to XYZ 0 .

The homepage was just an observation, not sure it's really contributing anything to the clearpoint issue.

  • I would check with your IT dept that they definitely didn't change anything recently.  All of the symptoms you describe point to PC-DMIS not having permission to store settings.  2022.2 stores it's setting in the following files...

    .

    C:\ProgramData\Hexagon\PC-DMIS\2022.2\DefaultSettings.json

    C:\ProgramData\Hexagon\PC-DMIS\2022.2\SystemSettings.json

    C:\ProgramData\Hexagon\PC-DMIS\2022.2\License.json

    C:\Users\UserName\AppData\Local\Hexagon\PC-DMIS\2022.2\UserSettings.json

    .

Make sure PC-DMIS has full read/write permission for all of them.

  • My S chrome is having weird stuff happen, we run a 24/7 operation and i decided to use windows task scheduler to automatically restart the PC once a week.  I believe there's cache or temp files getting clogged up, leading to the to odd/inexplicable/adverse behaviors.  Mine was terminating the execution of a routine on its own.  No errors. No crashing. Nothing. Just the execution window gone and the status at the bottom of the edit window screen showing that the software still thought it was running (waiting for probe hit or something to that effect at the bottom).

We'd re-execute and it would repeat.  Shut down/restart PC and the issue vanished.

-Fixed via scheduled reboot every wed morning at 5am just before a shift change.

  • All directories listed above have full read/write permissions...

I've re-booted EVERYTHING, no less than 3 times

I can set a clearpoint and it will hold it until the software  restarts... problem is, the automation guys have it set so that after each measurement routine PC-DMIS closes and the interface calls it up when time to measure the next part.  and everytime the software closes the clearpoint reverts back to machine "Home"

  • Does 2021.2 Store them in a similar fashion? I see a UserSettings.json, but it is blank, 0kb. Do I need to do something to have it display my settings?

  • 2021.2 uses the windows registry to store settings.  However, the development team was testing ways of migrating those settings to the new .json method during that development cycle so that is probably why you see an empty file on your system.

  • So, I found a backup I had made with settings editor back in May.  Figured I had nothing to lose since the machine wasn't working correctly anyway so I restored from the backup and all is well again!
