I had something odd happen the other day when making a program. I imported my cad, did my basic transforming to align it the way I would be holding it. After the first alignment I noticed that the head of my cmm in the graphical window was no long perpendicular but at a weird angle. I went through and checked my alignments and couldn't see anything wrong. Iv attached a picture and a copy of my code. 

Any help would be appreciated

  • What do you mean when you say progressive alignment? I dont know if I have heard that before

    It means Measure a 3D feature first followed by an alignment that levels to the 3D feature.  Next, set your workplane and measure any 2D features that are required for your alignment then add an alignment that recalls the alignment that performed the level and then performs a rotate to the 2D feature(s).  Finally measure any other features required to complete your alignment before adding that final alignment, recalling the previous one and setting any origins.

    The reason for this is that 2D features are workplane dependent and the workplane is relative to the active alignment.  If you try to measure 2D features before you have performed a level to a 3D feature on your part, then the workplane is relative to the machine co-ordinate system and not the part's orientation on the machine.  This can introduce error, depending on how parallel the axes of your part are to the machine's axes.
