Reload Probe DAT File

We are running PC-DMIS CAD++ Version 2016.0 (Release) x64 Build# 1179 (Service Pack 10)

The computer where our CMM software was corrupted and we lost everything on it. Reloaded everything, including PC-DMIS.

When we start PC-DMIS it does not have any probe information, no probe changer, nothing in any drop down menus, nothing.

The search path for the probe directory is “C:\Program Files\Hexagon\PC-DMIS 2016.0 64-bit\” and the actual  probe.dat path is "C:\Program Files\Hexagon\PC-DMIS 2016.0 64-bit\PROBE.DAT", which is correct. We don’t have a usrprobe.dat file.

The probe.dat file is 518 KB and appears to have all the standard probe build information required.

 How do we correct this?

Thank You

  • Make sure you have the "no probe defined" highlighted, and do not have the star selected. (I am on 2020 so it might look a little different)

  • As  said, make sure you select 'no probe defined' then all the elements will be available for selection to build your probe(s).

Note: the probe.dat file contains all the definitions of the individual components needed to build a probe.

The Set Search Path setting is where the probe files you create will be stored (and where PC-Dmis will look for them).

You really shouldn't have this in the Program Files directory.  Unless you run as Admin you may well not actually be able to create .prb file in this location.

The default location would be the User / Public Documents folder such as:

    C:\Users\Public\Documents\Hexagon\PC-DMIS\2023.2

Although I'd always have a separate Probe folder :

    C:\Users\Public\Documents\Hexagon\PC-DMIS\2023.2\Probes

  • If this is a 100% fresh install due to FUBAR computer, then EVERYTHING has to be redone from scratch.  You have to setup the changer, you have to build each and every probe file you used, all the way down the line.  An install of Pcdmis doesn't have ANY info on what you used, and every probe file is unique to every user, Pcdmis doesn't have 'default' probe builds of any kind, just the pieces parts used to build probe files.

  • ArkansasBeeper: We attempted this, and it did not work.

NinjaBadger: We Copied probe.dat file to "C:\Users\Public\Documents\Hexagon\PC-DMIS\2016.0\PROBE.DAT" – No difference.

Mathew D. Hoedeman: We don't have the piece parts to build the probe file.  Do you know where we can find this information?

  •

    No that's not correct.

The Probe.dat file contains definitions of all the available components - probe heads, sensors, tips etc.  This is installed with PC-Dmis and should remain in the Program Files directory:

    C:\Program Files\Hexagon\PC-DMIS 2023.2 64-bit

The probe files you create on the system (to reflect the actual hardware you assemble ) have a .Prb file extension.  These are stored (and accessed for use in a program) in the directory specified in the Set Serch Path options:

    C:\Users\Public\Documents\Hexagon\PC-DMIS\2023.2\Probes
