I'm interested in learning about Model-Based Definition. I would like to try and insert a CAD model with machine readable MBD made in like SolidWorks or Creo to PC-DMIS. Any discussion about MBD and your experiences are welcomed.

Look in your CAD folder (C:\Users\Public\Documents\Hexagon\PC-DMIS\version\CAD). There should be a couple of Hexblock models...
HexMI_DemoBlock_Large_PMI_Inch.CAD
HexMI_DemoBlock_Large_PMI_mm.CAD
HexMI_DemoBlock_Small_PMI_Inch.CAD
HexMI_DemoBlock_Small_PMI_mm.CAD
.
There is also a LeicaDemoTool.CATPart model containing PMI but you need a Catia license to open it.
From 2023.2 onwards we also include a HexMI_DemoBlock_Small.qif model with PMI but, again, you need a QIF license to open it.
I have bad experience using STEP with PMI and I can clearly say - IT'S NOT WORKING AT ALL. TOTALY USELESS. Maybe it's working well with demo block from hexagon, but that's all. When you import other model with mbd Pc-dmis will try to create features but can't use it at all. It's good idea but it's not working yet.
Robert Hulman Have you checked the CAD Information dialog to confirm everything is associated correctly? The majority of PMI problems we encounter are due to things being incorrectly defined or incorrectly associated in the native CAD package. When it comes to STEP, there is also the added factor of translation when exporting from the native format to STEP.
Also, what version of PC-DMIS are you using? We have made many improvements in recent versions - try signing up to the 2024.2 PC-DMIS Technical Preview to see the latest improvements.
Of course I did. I use STEP AP242 only with semantic PMI. All annotations are linked to CAD. I'm using version 2024.1 SP2. And another dangerous issue occurs when i run program which contains native PMI through Inspect. There's a big bug which can lead into machine equipment damage. Damage of wrist-head or probe because unexpected collisions but it' another story.
