Using a New Romer RA8 with scanner and Pc-Dmis2021
So i have a customer Volvo that supplies me with MPT documents that shows locations of points that they want measured. The question is exactly how to 3D scan the part and extract those exact points from the COP Scan? I imported the CSV file to get all the points into the program, but they are not recognized by Pc-Dmis as points. Any information will help! Initially this is one off inspection but will become a 30pc cap study soon with these points. Scanning is the only way of getting this information consistently with an Arm.
You might have to use AUTO FEATURES, and select the points you imported (which are now CAD features, not measured features) and select each one individually and tell it to get the data from the COP for the points.
Depending on how many points you have, you could use auto features to create the points in the approximate locations, and type in the nominal x,y,z values from your csv file. I'm sure there would be a way to programmatically open the csv file and read the values, but that's beyond my capability.
Also, 3d scanning is good, but be prepared to see "need more scan data" and get frustrated ... ! Also, make sure you run the program off the local drive on the machine, and save often.
Not knowing your starting point, I imagine there's a method for aligning (possibly to the CAD model) your 3D scan. I think that's where I'd begin. 1. Get 3D scan. 2. COP/CAD alignment. 3. AutoFeature surface point (click on CAD model in proximity) and keyin the CSV points exact value and click FIND NOMINALS. 4. I'd set the parameters for the software auto-guided hard probing as needed. Alternatively, as suggested by wish2byflying, if scanning only you could set the in/out data extraction windows "large" to get around the "need more scan data." Again, if not too many points, the auto-guided hard probing might work well enough.
