We have a Vision system, something that I haven't used in any of my previous positions, and it's a great help except for one issue: it seems rather mediocre at picking out the edges of countersinks reliably. I adjust the light intensity, sometimes even make the light "off-center", yet I probably have a failure rate on c'sink diameters of anywhere from 1/3 to 1/2. I'm getting tired of constantly having to take the part
OFF the Vision machine, just to put it on the comparator all for a single c'sink diameter that I
SHOULD be able to get. What can I do, short of adding layout die and stoning the face?
You have different methods to measure diameters, like nominal, edge shown or leading edge (not sure of it, i'm not at the cmm and I didn't check those words in english !!!!!). You can also increase the size of the research edge, with or without auto focus...

Lighting and the type of edge are key to this type of measurement. You will need to experiment with the best results and then I recommend saving the settings for whatever type of material that you are checking this should make things go better in the future. Vision can be difficult to say the least. I am new to it as well only about one year using vision. Try all of the different edge selection methods out. I seem to find that they help the most with difficult edges, then adjust the strength to fine tune it.
