PCDMIS Vision Suggestion

Hello, my CMM is incapable to measure the small part (see attached images) and I was asked to research for a vision measurement system. A salesman presented me with Keyence IM series and I wonder if anyone can provide me the comparison between Keyence model with PCDMIS vision system. The capture 2 image contains dimension that I would like to measure. Thanks in advance.

  • It's been a little while, I may be wrong, but the Keyence is limited to FOV measurement, with a vision system you can get either manual or DCC motion. Some of those dimensions are going to be questionable with either system, though.

    What size are your parts?

And as a minor aside, the dimensions in your print are incorrect. For metric dimensions, if the number is less than one it requires a leading zero, and the leading zero is not allowed for inch measurements less than one. The dimension listed as .46 ±.08 should be 0.46 ±0.08.
  • That's doable on the Keyence IM. We have one. You'd have to play around with tangent lines and circles, but doable. It looks like the part maybe tapered? So you would need a fixture to make sure the part stays straight.

The Keyence can take 3 snapshots over an 8 inch range. It will merge those images together to get one snapshot. This part would work for it. This part would also work for a Optiv 321 as well.
  • I would look beyond this one part and ask which would be the best fit for other parts, who's going to use it, program it???
We have both an IM and an Optiv. I think both will do the part, but I prefer the functionality of the Optiv with PC-DMIS.
