Has anyone moved over to Datapage+ for reporting?

I don't know if Im missing something, but the layout is beyond confusing, Im still not sure I have the database setup correctly, it is dog slow when I have a part model on the screen, & I still have not figured out how to tell PCDMIS how to access the database. Im trying to make Dataview style reports out of it, but Im finding it next to impossible to do. Why they did away with the File...Edit...View...toolbar at the top, I dont know.
  • Turns out that we needed to set the capability settings to 1 subgroup of 1 minimum and now we have found that the negative tolerance is coming in as positive from pc-dmis. I have posted about that in a different thread.
  • Overall, I think we had done a good job on addressing these issues. This is not saying that we did not miss some functionality that you use on the daily basis. We are addressing that as well with the v4.1 release. If we take an objective view of the entire product, I think the new platform is better. It has more flexibility than the legacy product and it has tools that legacy product do not have

What good is a software if you "lose the functionality that we use on a daily basis"? There are functionalities that the legacy datapage/dataview had that, that a program writer may not be aware of.

Generating a report with Datapage+ is ok, with the exception of not having a macro creation ability that legacy had. The Save Report option, allows you to save a report setup (not really a template) but you can only force it to change the part data history. Fields in the title block retain the information that was saved at the time you save the report. If you use the right click option to select part/parts you want to report, the start date and end date should change to represent the data being displayed. I do not want to create a new report each time I output a report. I want to be able to setup specific cad views, in specific variable sets, in specific orders.... and then repeat those options in a future report.

The next drawback is not being able to output data in a format that is editable, and then get it back into datapage+. Legacy allowed the user to open Editor, and use the ctrl/c and ctrl/p options to organize and manipulate data. Sometimes it is nice to have the option of simulating a datum shift in Excel, and having the ability to report it. With datapage+, I have attempted to output in Excel with success, but importing Excel, has proven to be a task for someone who has nothing better to do, than create Excel mapping constantly, because the mapping is not saved.

We have 4 license upgrades for PcDmis2013 and DataSuite that are pending a solution to this option.
  • In addition to JEFF's comment, in which I experience the same faults with DP+. My frustration is in the report creation. If you mess up and didn't save periodically, you have to start the report all over again. Frustrating when your report is 26 pages long (I have 3 of these this size). Also, why have the option to hide a feature with no option to bring any feature forward? I give props to the update so the features/dimensions can be sorted by measurement order or not. Too bad you didn't implement it where it counts, in creating queries. This program that has a 26 page report has over 600 features. In adding the features, they accumulate at the bottom and is a pain in searching for what I want. And for some wishing, the run charts look like crap. My boss wants my run charts to look like Cognitens that GM gives us. Just my 2 cents for the moment. Looking forward to the update, whenever it arrives.
  • Data page + Slow

Scream These are the specs needed in order to run fast. Yes, I was extremely slow untill the company decided to upgrade.
  • I love version 3.1 and have never had any problems. I had some when they create Suite.
  • not sure if is the right place to post this but have datapage+ 2011 MR1 loaded on the new machine. took the class and can not get the states to work with any program. we were instructed to place an external command into the program c:\datapagestats.exe - listening at the beginning of the program just after startup. there is no datapagestats.exe file on the disk or from the download from the site. have un install and reinstalled as administrator. and also am getting "the version target database (V4.36) request dose not match the requested (V4.25), please upgrade your application. can anyone help

First, you need to point the "datapagestats.exe" command to the right directory. The file is stored inside the install directory for Datapage+ it's should look something like "C:\Program Files\WAI\DataPage+ 2011 MR1\Datapagestats.exe" If datapage+ is installed, then that file is there.

Second, it seems like you installed a newer version of Datapage+ or your trying to use the wrong database(probably either the demo database or a SQL proprietary database). I would suggest creating a new database and testing to see if it's working.

What version of PC-DMIS are you using and what version of Microsoft SQL are you using? Are you sure you set up the SQL server correctly?

Also, to be honest. This isn't the right place for this either. You should have created a new thread. (Maybe a moderator can resolve this)
  • Since there are so many issues with Data Page +, can you all make a updated version of data page 3.33 for Win 7 64 bit? At least that would help those of us that do not have time for a class because our jobs are so demanding. Thank you

I haven't encountered any major bugs that prevent Datapage+ from functioning for the majority of our customers. Datapage RT also has elements from what I understand that are written in 8 bit language that aren't compatible with modern hardware which make just updating parts of it to work with Win7 a major project and not something we can just do with a few hours of time spent.
  • Datapage+ does work. Some of the functions can be labor intensive if you have large programs. My only tip is that if you have to report TP individual axis, datapage doesn't bring tolerances for the axis. I created a second location dim in pcd for every feature of size.

  • that are written in 8 bit language
The Editor uses a 16bit dll - not supported in x64 land. The Win7 x64 issues are portlock related?

Fair enough, I heard that it was 8 bit but I wasn't certain. The only win7 port lock issues I know of are that the old LPT style port locks are not supported in Win7 by Safenet.
