Wanting some advice on Alignment. I have a part with 5 straight in line holes, the top is a datum. The composite feature frame call for a TP .8 to AD, I created a line between all 5 holes then rotated to that line and set the axis on the datum
That should work for having the CMM to measure the holes, for evaluating, you would need to allow the four holes to rotate around D (D is a single hole?).
If you are using XactMeasure or GeoTol and have your datum definitions correct, you are good to go. Not sure about legacy though.
If you don't trust those threaded holes to much you could have also made a line on that outside edge and Rotated to that, and still origin to the line created by the holes, either way should work. but I can't see the whole picture, I'm guessing you're limited to what you can display.
Technically LEVEL and ORIGIN "A" to "Z" I don't see "B" but ROTATE to "B" is it a Plane or line? don't know, Then "X" and "Y" ORIGIN to "D" That should be your alignment. "D" is the one hole.

Well "B" can't be some Random Line in the middle of the part. It has to be some kind of feature, I hate when Engineers do this, you can't just make up a imaginary centerline. Anyways to answer the question at hand because of the composite, again not seeing the hole picture, Is there anything to get you to the center of the part? 2 outside walls? Maybe? and call it out to the center and call it "B". "B" is disposed of, on the second part of the composite, this allowing each of the 4 holes to Rotate freely, but if you are using Legacy, then you are tied to the alignment, unless you specify the Datums "A" and "D"

and to answer this question, Yes "X" and "Y" is "D" as you can see with the Basics, everything is tied into "D" which is sad, because I notice with the Basics saying "2X" That means it's controlling the other side of the part, with identical holes, The further you move away from your starting point, the more probability for error, not yours, just controlling the other holes not shown.

unless of course the other side is A|E or something like that.
