Reverting actuals back to cad model

Hello all,

i have a question, the engineering department all the sudden wants me to check their cad models for them. The easiest way i have found is to write a program (which i would have to do anyways) offline to the model in cad. Then i of course print the report and viola! There is the dimensions of their cad model.

My problem is, they also want the checks to be done on older models that i have already programmed and ran actual parts online. How can i get the report to show the actuals that the cad model has, and not the actuals from the last part i checked.

Thanx in advance
sam
  • You could just run it offline.

There is also a script out there somewhere to force the values to revert, but its really not necessary if you run offline.

Oh, btw, any program that you open after the first (on-line) automatically opens in offline mode.
  • Check the Theos of your features. That is what was pulled from the CAD, unless you or someone changed them.

    +1
  • SHOW PATH LINES also works, sort of, kind of. After you do SHOW PATH LINES, you then save, close, open, then re-enter the feature ID in the first dimension. Depending on the program, this can actually be faster than running offline.

BE WARNED! BOTH methods will set all actuals to the TARGET values for each feature, NOT the THEO. Now, normally, the TARGET values match the THEO, but if for any number of (VERY!) good reasons, you have changed a target value, THAT is what will show up in the result, not the THEO. Best example of a changed TARGET.... a hole that is very small, has a lot of tolerance, repeats like a dream, but, it not perfect, so you change the TARGET to the 'actual' location so it won't crash.
  • thanks for the tips guys... i will try the "show path lines" thing and see if it works. I miss spoke when i said that i ran the program "offline" I actually dont have that option. what i meant was that i programed it, created the dimensions and reported them.. all before i actually run the program on the part. I can't go offline... Disappointed

Do you not see this ability?

A little clarification.... any program you open WHILE YOU HAVE ONE OPEN, will open in OFFLINE. If you close the first one you open, then the next one will open ONLINE.....
  • Mr. Ruggieri, no i don't see that option. Maybe i am missing something, but my computer is attached to the machine and as far as i know.. always online.

I tried the "Show Path Lines" method and it didn't change the report. SO... I am stuck.

  • ahh.. i didnt know that.. i tried it.. but the report is still the same.

  • Mr. Ruggieri and Mr. Hoedeman,

I have figured it out thanks to ur insight... i opened a program, then opened the program in question, and then actually ran it and it changed the report to represent the cad model.

I had no idea that you could "Run" the program in cad and it not move the machine! Learn something new everyday!
