tcp/ip port setting

I am having trouble connecting to my DEA controller on my Global.
Using rs-232 connection I was able to use hyper terminal to show the connections.

READY
SHOW TCPIP
TCP/IP Information

Ctrl Internet Address : 80.128.0.2
Port Number : 0
Host Internet Address : 80.128.0.1
Connection State : listening
Bad IP Checksums : 0
Bad TCP Checksums : 0
Packets Retransmitted : 0

Is there a way to change the port setting remotely? It should be set to 2001, but as you see it is 0 now. The motherboard was changed recently in the controller.
  • Do the lights next to the LAN line on the computer light up when you plug it in?
  • Yes, the green light will turn on when I plug the cable into it.
  • First, I saw a user post that your Subnet needed to be 255.255.0.0 which is incorrect.
    Subnet needs to be 255.255.255.0

You might be able to run Settings editor and look in the Leitz section to see what the TCPIPPORT = It should = 2001, if it reads 0 then your controller has somehow lost it's config. If it reads something different. This also may not work because all of your settings reside on the controller. And for gods sakes DO NOT CHANGE ANY SETTINGS IN SETTINGS EDITOR.

If your controller has lost its setting then you're going to have to call out Hexagon to help you. You said recently that you're mainboard in the Leitz controller was replaced, if you're asking me it looks like the tech set it up wrong. But my global lost it's home position once and I had to have Hexagon come out and install a new firmware on it.
  • This is what I have...no warranty implied.

    Go to Control Panel
    Network Connections
    LAN
    Properties
    Then…
    Highlight TCP/IP
    Then…
    Properties
Choose radio button tha says “use following IP ADDRESS”
    Type in at IP… 80.128.0.1 ---I used 204.17.113.168
    Type in at subnet…255.255.0.0
    Under LAN…
    Properties
    General Tab
    Configure
    Advanced Tab
    Speed & duplex = 10mb FULL

    Within PC-DMIS…

    Machine Interface Setup
Use TCp/IP link to drive Machine
    TCP/IP Address= 80.128.0.2 ---I used 204.17.113.169
    TCP/IP Port Number= 2001

FWIW....I just went through this yesterday on my new PC. The above settings didn't work for me. I went back to the old PC and looked up the IP it had on it.

See my two changes in RED above.

I also agree the subnet should be 255.255.255.0
  • When he typed "show tcpip", controller returned the good adress, only the port number was wrong... 80.128.0.1 was the tcpip adress of my sharpe 32Z, 204.17.113.168 is the number of my Global, but I don't think it's a problem. Maybe down load a new firmware could fix the problem ( you can ask to Hexagon to send it to you, I think it's V44 now).
  • TCP/ IP failed. They are not communicating. I have an IP address 192.9.200.10 and port No. 2001 on the machine interface, and it is totally different. set up. When I checked on the network card side it is set to get an IP address automatically, it is totally different. The IP address is 169.254.135.111. My question is shouldn't be the same IP address? Lights are coming out from the computer card. The IT guy cannot figure out. Please help.

    Thanks,
  • In cmd (dos), you can type "ping" + ip adress.
I guess 169.254.135.111 is the controller adress, so the host should be something like169.254.135.110.

Thanks for your prompt attention. I am a little confused. How many addresses do we have here? I have the machine interface IP address: 192.9.200.10 and the network card on the back of my computer IP: 169.254.135.111. Which one is host and which one is the controller? I am not sure about the IP 169.254.135.110.

    Thanks
  • update: I ping IP 169.254.135.111 it was successful. plus I did ping localhost received =4, sent = 4 , lost = 0 packet.

Assuming you have only one network card (some systems have two). you need to change the computer address to be similar (but not the same) to te machine IP address. Something like 192.9.200.9 would work.

Also, this might take the computer off your company network, assuming you cable directly from the PC to the controller.

This is why you could have two network cards, one for the machine and one for the company network.
