'DOF: M54' Alarm

We are having movement issues with our CMM. During a programme the CMM stops and it tells us "DOF: M54 invalid machine not in manual mode".

The machine is in the middle of a programme, it all runs in DCC mode. So we are unsure why it is implying we should be in Manual mode to move from A-B along an axis. Even in the middle of a calibration run the CMM stops and shows this message.

If we press 'continue' it carries on like normal, so it looks like some sort of jolt or glitch. We can't have someone stand next to the CMM pressing 'continue' every two minutes during a programme, so we would like to solve this issue.

What is it, and why is it doing it?

Canyou elaborate on the controller a bit? Brown & Sharpe actually makes multiple controllers. I am guessing this is one that we call the Sharpe controller. One way to check is to Help - About PC-DMIS to open the dialog and then click on the button labeled View License Details. Expand the list where it says "Installed Modules" and look for the one that says "PC-DMIS Online Interface - " and see what follows. If, as I suspect, it is Sharpe, then you need an update. It was fixed after the 2013 Release. It is available in the following -
    2013 Custom #23 and above
    2013 MR1 #638 (from May 9, 2013) and above.

I followed the steps you posted and we have a B&S Sharpe DCC.

I shall download the MR1 version and see what happens. We don't rely on PC-DMIS on this CMM yet, so if it doesn't work we don't lose anything.

I shall post back if it doesn't, thanks for your help so far.
  • Don is correct. This was an issue with the Sharpe controller (Sharpe32Z not included). Fixed in 2013MR1
  • Ok, so we have downloaded 2013 MR1, that bit was fine.

However, once I go to open it it says...

"Invalid volcomp configuration, volcomp will not be used"

    then it says

"Neither grid comp nor parametric XY comp factors exist, indicating mising or incorrect compensation"

I also noticed in the bottom left it says 'cannot find comp.dat' even though there is clearly one in the WAI files.

How can PCDMIS 2013 work fine, but the MR1 suddenly fails to recognise things? Is there something I need to do?

Where exactly is the comp file stored? What operating system are you using?

Windows XP (remember those good old days?). Boss refuses to update on something where we only press a couple of buttons an hour.

Files are always stored on C Drive, Programme Files, WAI, PCDMIS 2013 MR1.

I got a phone call from Hexagon a few minutes ago, and I have a list of files to manually transfer over from 2013 to 2013 MR1 folders:

    downl.oad
    sysparam.dat
    comp.dat
    toolc.dat

However, no matter where I look, we do not have a sysparam.dat file, and we do not have a tooloc.dat file in anything from the last two updates, so am nervous about using that.

Another thread someone can link me to that would help?
  • I am running Windows 7 64bit, on an older xcel 7-10-7 with the sharp 32 controller(not scanning capable) and have had the orgional issue with the m54 error in 2013sr1 and attempted to download and run 2013mr1 but had the exact same issue the comp.dat file. I attempted using the 2013sr1 comp file and a previous 2011 mr1 comp.dat file, but pcdmis would not reconize the replacement comp files. Have you found a fix for this? I also have not located the toolc or sysparam dat files.

For XP I believe the new comp.dat file placement is
    C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\WAI\PC-DMIS\2013 MR1

    For Win7
    C:\Program Data\WAI\PC-DMIS\2013 MR1

This is a change that happened in 2013MR1

You don't need sysparam.dat, and toolc.dat is only if you have a tool change rack.
  • I renamed the directory, using "program data" and "program files" along with folder levels WAI\PC-DMIS\2013 MR1 and attempted to execute inside the file as admin. but I am still getting the volcomp error. Cannot read comp.dat The comp.dat file is in the folder, but will not be read. Any advice?
  • I don't understand what you renamed. You don't need to rename anything.

Comp.Dat is now placed in those folders.
