'DOF: M54' Alarm

We are having movement issues with our CMM. During a programme the CMM stops and it tells us "DOF: M54 invalid machine not in manual mode".

The machine is in the middle of a programme, it all runs in DCC mode. So we are unsure why it is implying we should be in Manual mode to move from A-B along an axis. Even in the middle of a calibration run the CMM stops and shows this message.

If we press 'continue' it carries on like normal, so it looks like some sort of jolt or glitch. We can't have someone stand next to the CMM pressing 'continue' every two minutes during a programme, so we would like to solve this issue.

What is it, and why is it doing it?

PC-DMIS 2013. Tesa Micro Xcel. PH10T. Browne & Sharpe controller.
  • I placed the comp.dat file in the folder as specified but still have the same issue. Would the comp.dat connection be any different on the sharp32 controller for this new version of pcdmis. We installed 2013mr1 on out global performance '08 model without any comp.dat issues.
  • C:\ProgramData\WAI\PC-DMIS\2013 MR1 That's the directory that comp.dat should be in now if you are Running Windows 7. You shouldn't have to create or rename anything.
If you're running Windows XP, the directory I specified earlier for XP might work but 2013MR1 but there is no guaranteed compatibility for XP so if it doesn't work then there isn't a whole lot I can to to fix it from here.
  • Finally got it working. Thank You for your help
  • I just got Hexagon to remotely access our PC and do it all for me. Not a clue what they did though. We now have PC-DMIS MR1.... which should last at least 1 month before something new happens. But hey, we don't buy PC-DMIS to execute programmes, we do it so we have something to fix all year round, customers can take a running jump with their result requests... right?Stuck out tongue closed eyes
  • Your boss is a cheapskate moron who refuses to spend money an something he obviously knows just enough about to be dangerous.
You need proper training and your cmm's need servicing.
    Who does the calibration?
Hexagon will give your boss recommendations regarding where you keep the cmm's and how you look after them.
If he ignores them then don't bust a gut trying to make them work, make him pay hexagon to fix them.
Eventually he will realise its cheaper to put them in a clean environment that spend thousands fixing them.
It took me 4 years to get that done here, and I have 12 cmms on the shop in various enviroments.

Haha. He did it with air filters on the roof too. Left it for two years without cleaning them because 'it is a waste of time', and recently they packed up and the replacement costs far outweigh having them serviced.

Ha ha...normal Brit miss-management......even talking to them thru their wallets is no guarantee that common sense will rise to the top.
