Rotate program 90 degrees.

I have searched all over the forum and I cant get the answer I'm looking for.

I am trying to rotate a program 90degrees. part is going from horizontal to lateral. Mirror doesn't work and I'm lost.

Any help is apreciated. I attached a pic of what i want to do just a simple 90 degree rotation about y axis

  • I can never remember the exact sequence, but you create an alignment before any other hits or alignments that rotates the alignment as desired, then click Yes or No when it asks to update the dependent commands, then delete the new alignment and click the opposite of whatever you clicked the first time. Save a copy and experiment with it before messing with the real copy.
  • Personally, I wouldn't change it in the middle of the program, if you need to do it, be careful with the move points or probe rotation. There's a lot of risk involved with this.
If you need this for your dimensioning, do it before dimensioning. Open Alignment and rotate -90 or 90 degrees around Y axis...
  • I just had to do this for a program I have to re-orient the setup on.

What I did was delete all of my alignments starting from the end of the program working back to the start. Select "Yes" to align the features with the new alignment. Do this until only the Startup alignment is left.

Next, reset all feature nominals from the Operation>Features menu. This will put everything back on the model from where ever it was on the machine the last time the part was ran.

Next, transform your model to the new rotation; click the "keep original" check box. Do this so you can visualize that the rotation is correct.

Next, after the startup alignment and before any measured features create a new alignment that rotates the part the desired direction. Click "Yes" to align the features to the new alignment.

Next, delete the new alignment; this time clicking "No" when asked to align the features to the new alignment.

Finally go back through and recreate all of your part alignments from the beginning to the end of the program.

You're also going to want to go through and double check all clearance plane definitions and moves.
  • , I think you could have changed the Part Setup in the F5 Part/Machine tab or the Machine Options Axis settings. If it were for a one off one time rotation of a program.
