laptop for PCDMIS PORTABLE?

Hi,

I just got a used 3000i Romer arm, it came without laptop and software. Can you recommend a good laprop for PCDMIS Portable (CAD++), also I need to know if WinRDS and PCMIS can run on Windows Vista.

TIA
  • A Dell Vostro 1520 (or 1720 if you want the 17" screen) upgraded to 4 gig ram and a dedicated video card will work.
If you've got the cash, a Dell Precision with the same upgrades (if it's not standard) is great. You'd probably end up spending half what you paid for the arm itself with the Precision. The 3000i's can't be too expensive anymore.

Not sure about Vista, but you can always call Romer and ask. They can answer that question, I'm sure.

Thanks Kami, I'll quote the 1520 and ask Romer about WinRDS support.

    Yes
  • I've got PC-DMIS 4.3MR1 loaded on my year old HP laptop and I've run into a problem that maybe graphics card related, not sure. I can program offline with generally no problems until I get to some surfaces on the CAD model that will not let me pick features off of it. The graphics doesn't quite look either.

Tried loading 3.7MR3 and 4.2MR1 and neither of those would load.
  • PC-DMIS 4.3 and beyond will work in Vista.

WinRDS 5.2 and beyond will work in Vista.
  • Vista graphics drivers are still a little unstable. Try the Windows latest driver, and then the mfg's driver if that doesn't work. Also try the demo block model to make sure that it's not the model itself.
