Open Dmis

I'm hoping someone can help. I have been using and programming PC-DMIS for about a year and my company is thinking of buying a Wenzel, which uses Open DMIS, instead of the B&S that I want. Does anybody know anything about the machine or software? Any help would be appreciated.
  • birds told me.

    ya got birds over there?

    interesting!
  • We were looking at a CMM with OpenDMIS for our next new CMM purchase. I asked them for a demo and they set up a webinar for me. At the end of the weninar they sales manager for Xpect offer to come to Texas set up and offline seat demo and give me a 2-3 hour of training so I could demo the software. I thought the software stunk to high heaven. The first thing I noticed was that even though they advertize that OpenDMIS works with the PH20 the offline seat doesn't. Other pains were the fact that even on the offline seat you have to calibrate your angles. OpenDMIS is cumbersome (IMO). If I really got used to OpenDMIS it would be alright, but I was using PCD before any training and didn't have near the problems I had trying to use OpenDMIS. GIVE ME PCD ANY DAY!

Thanks for the insight Dewain. See that's my whole point in my criticism of the Hexagon software model. The software, for the most part, is great to use. It is the ungodly amount of bugs, and the ungodly amount of bugs that are known to exist but are not fixed that just kills me. Someone get a bug zapper quick.

or maybe a hotfix? but then they would have to admit that there are bugs. :/

    just as useful
  • you can get I++ for PC-DMIS. (and Quindos, for that matter) Unrelated to the renishaw support.

What you mean to say is you can get an I++ interface for pc-dmis.
(for retrofits etc. I have the proto 2.6 interface for the johannsen controller)
Pc-dmis will not support the renishaw controller for the PH20 or the REVO.
I have been down this path.
Why do you think I would want to switch to different software if I don't have to?
It just means more problems retraining operators to use new software.
I dont particularly mind as its more software exposure for me.
