Calibration - Standard Deviation exceeds limits

I am having a problem getting my 1mmx27.5 probe tip to calibrate.

I have cleaned the 1mm ruby tip and the calibration sphere. I even changed out the 1mm tip with a new one.

Here is the report:

Why does the diameter keep coming out to 0.895?

That probe is WAY TOO LONG to get good, decent numbers everytime. There is just way too much flex in the shaft.

You can try slowing down the touch speed to 0.5 and see if it gets any better. HOWEVER, whatever touch speed you use for calibration MUST BE the same speed you use for measurements.

I think you are using a 2mm ruby not 1mm?? Measure your ruby with a pair of calipers to double check

It really is a 1mm ruby tip. 27.5 mm stem. It's on a 3mm to 2mm reducer. I slowed the speed down, but I'm still getting 0.013-0.016 mm std dev. It's set for 0.00762 (0.0003in)

Kinda lost me. What is on a reducer the stem?? That would have nothing to do with you ruby diameter. And it looks like your measuring almost exactly 1mm small??

I suspect you have not defined the probe properly. Are you using all Renishaw or Tesa components in the build? Did you select them all from the "factory" probe list or did you customize some of them? Did you include the M3/M2 converter in the build?

The 1x27 stylus is notorious for flexing. The shaft is very small.
I quit using that particular stylus exactly because of the flexing problem.

Same here.

If you are using this stylus you need to have the absolute lightest probe touch setting you can possibly get. A TP-2 is nice here because you can lighten the spring tension. A TP-20 has a light force module (forget what it is called).

I ran a bunch of tests with this stylus and the results I saw are comparable to what you are seeing (basically awful). If you need something this small you should use a 1X10mm stylus on the end of a 20mm stylus extension (or better yet, no extension unless you need the length).
