You could do this with a readpoint. Look at this thread.
Also search readpoint in the forum.
Basically, you place the probe near a corner or a hole, align to that and run from there.
The part has to be fairly square to the axis', but the location can vary.

WHICH is still an alignment, there is NO WAY to put a part on the table, program & check it, then place it SOMEWHERE ELSE on the table without doing an alignment, no matter what type, it is STILL an alignment.

No one said it was. Your imagination created something so that you could get in the last word.
Nope, that didn't happen. And the OP was saying that there had to be a way to do it without doing an alignment.
I am new to using PC-DMIS and trying to write a program. I have aligned the part and taken my measurements. What do I need to do so that when I move the part and put a different(butsame) part on my table it will be able to automatically run the program? Will I need to do a manual align everytime the part is moved? Thanks in advance for the help.

Good point Snaggy. I click on "NEW POSTS" so I don't really notice which forum / sub-forum it is in.
When we had a real Moderator (IE James Mannes), this would have been moved to the correct forum.
I think some people post in the "Tips and Tricks" forum thinking "that's what I want is a tip", without understanding that it is a forum for posting Tips and Tricks.
That would require actually reading the forum information. I think most of us can vouch for the fact that most people choose to ignore the opportunity to learn, and want the answer handed to them on a silver platter along with a Ho-Ho.
