About to put in a tech support ticket, but they are slow so.... it is a race to see if you can fix this first.
2mmx30mm probe measure outside cylinder. Then measure the same cylinder with a 4mmX40mm probe. The measured diameters are exactly the same.. but the measured centers are 0.006" different in X and 0.006" different in Y.
this is so not cool, i don't know how long this has been going on or what is causing it. I thought that it was my calibration, so i recalibrated and said "Yes tool has moved" and manually "found" the cal tool just to be on the safe side.... still the same results.
may have narrowed it to the 2mm probe.. i measured the same feature with the 3mmX60mm probe and it matched the location of the 4mm probe.... hmmmmm.....
Hi Caemgen,
Don't think so. the sphere looks fine, and it passed calibration with 0.0000 to 0.0001 stndev. And i just ran the same test with a 1mm probe and it didn't shank and it gave me good data.... so that further proves to me that the problem is with the 2mm probe.
could i possibly have a bad probe trigger module??
Stick the 4mm on the 2mm's module and see if it reads correctly. That will factor out the module. I doubt that you'd get good cal with it if it were bad, but easy to rule it out completely.
After that trade out extensions and probes, if you have another 2mm laying about.
Trying to think how to do that without having to recalibrate the whole lot... i have to move the cal sphere off of table to run parts... and i can't be sure that i get it exactly back to where it was so i have to do a manual hit to relocate it... won't that mess up the current alignments of all the other probes in the rack?
i changed the probe module, and i also put on a new 2mm probe to rule out the posibility of a bad probe tip... i am still getting a discrepancy between all the probes... it did change though.. now it is 0.0116" in X and -.006" in Y.
still no word from tech support. i now think it is not a hardware problem... thinking of rebuilding the probe in the probe dialog box.... is that worth a shot? maybe it became corrupt?
