Software Crashing Issue

Good morning ya'll,
I'm running V2023.1 on a global green 07.10.07
Over the last few days, I have been having issues with PC-DMIS crashing when I hit F9 on random features. I updated not long ago to V2023 from V2019 after we had a hard drive failure. asides from a controller connection issue during the install and losing the probe profiles things went pretty smoothly.
Has anyone else had a similar crashing issue and where you able to determine if it's a bug issue or a hardware issue? I can't seem to find anything in patch notes indicating this issue specifically so I'm thinking something else in the computer may be failing causing the issue. I do find it odd that the crash ONLY occurs when I hit F9 to edit a feature in the edit window. I have submitted error reports, but I have never gotten any direct feedback as a result of submitting reports so I'm hoping the community may have had the same issue and can shed some light into my problem.
Thanks in advance! Slight smile
  • Hmmm, I had a program recently to look at which came from a customer, and I did experience this a couple of times.

The only thing I could spot was that 1) it was written on a different PC and that each time it occurred it was on an Auto Feature using an adaptive scan strategy.

To be fair, I didn't think too much of it at the time (it didn't hinder me too much for what I had to do) but now you've mentioned it perhaps there's something there?!?

    This was 2023.1 also.

  • I can't say for certain but I'm sure some crashes occurred when selecting and adaptive scanned auto feature. I'll be mindful to see if it is specific feature types that this is happening with. Until then I'll keep submitting bug reports and throwing in "colorful" comments Smiley
  • do you open pcdmis in ADMIN mode?

Always running in Admin mode. Wink

That was an application issue in previous a version. Did you create a Machine environment? That might be the issue.
  • not the same as running Pcdmis the FIRST TIME in admin-mode, makes no difference if you are the admin on the PC or not, Pcdmis doesn't look at the user, so it needs to be told to run as admin the fist time you run it.

    Good call
  • Myself and my department are currently having a similar issue, after talks with hexagon though no one seems to know the issue or work arounds with it, but it does come from using the Edit feature in the program. Everything has been checked and set up by hexagon themselves and even now we still have crash's when selecting a auto-feature. anyone managed to get a way around it as of yet?
  • What version is this? If it is 2023.1 there is a case if you've not created and selected an environment, crashes like this could happen. Are you familiar with the Environment Configurator? Have you selected an environment?

From what I can tell the environment was set to static I believe. I cannot check at the moment as I'm running a calibration routine. I looked at it the other day so I'm not 100% sure static was what was checked off.
I am still getting random crashes though and it's not just scans so IDK...lol at this point I'm just dealing with the random restarts as I'm too busy to investigate further currently. Hopefully I'll be able to dedicate some time later in the week. Thanks for all the input and sorry I've been delayed in my responses Slight smile

EDIT: It did not say static it was stationary that was checked off in the select environment tab.
