Calculated expressions can be provided as custom output points for easy access in graphics and reports. And they can also be included directly in reports.

Custom Output Points

The custom output points can be used in Q-DAS graphics and reports, as well as for symbol allocation.

To manage the calculated expressions as custom output points, the "Calculated expressions" dialogue is used.
<File> | <Configurations> | <Fields, input and output> | <calculated expression>

To add a new expression, double-click in the dialogue box. To modify existing expressions, double-click on the appropriate expression.

It is not possible to integrate the measured value information.

Custom output points require the results of calculated expressions to be numerical.

All the contents of the custom output point — the result, formula and label — can be displayed together in a single element (output point).

Creating and modifying the calculated expression as a custom output point is restricted to users in the "System-Administration" group.

Users with the appropriate user rights can add custom output point to Q-DAS graphics or use them for symbol allocation.

Available are the custom output points to all users in all products and modules. Therefore, it is not intended to delete a calculated expression from the GUI in order to prevent incorrect displays.

Calculated Expressions in Reports

Use the Form designer (Q-FD) to add “Calculated expression” as an individual element in reports without using the custom output points.

<Output field selection (listing)> | <Output combination fields> | <Calculated output>

To modify the expression, select the "Calculated expression" option from the context menu.

It is not possible to integrate the measured value information.

The results of the calculated expressions in reports can be either numerical or Boolean.

Creating and modifying the calculated expression is only possible when editing a report in Form designer (requires licence).

Sharing a report is easy, as the calculated expression is stored within the report itself. In contrast, reports using custom output points require the custom output point configuration to be available in order to function.

To display the result, the formula itself and the label require separate elements for each piece of information. When using custom output points, all information can be displayed within a single element.
